Jesus: “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” Peter: “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything.” Results: “They caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break… left everything and followed him.” A few weeks ago in church we were reading the above verses and the phrase, “Put into deep water…” hit me like a ton of bricks. What is deep water? It is far from the safety of the shore where the wind is strong and the waves are brutal. It is the place where you can’t just jump out of the boat and wade back on a whim. Peter and the guys were exhausted fishermen. They knew what they were doing; yet they obeyed Jesus.
