Take a Risk

Take a Risk

Do you feel you are just going through the motions in life right now? Something is off and you can’t put your finger on it?Check out the following dialogue from Luke 5:4-11.

Jesus: “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”

Peter: “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything.”

Results: “They caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break… left everything and followed him.”

A few weeks ago in church we were reading the above verses and the phrase, “Put into deep water…” hit me like a ton of bricks. What is deep water? It is far from the safety of the shore where the wind is strong and the waves are brutal. It is the place where you can’t just jump out of the boat and wade back on a whim. Peter and the guys were exhausted fishermen. They knew what they were doing; yet they obeyed Jesus.

I encourage you to take the following actions:

  1. Take A Risk. When you are not seeing success from your hard work, perhaps you need to sweat a little and take a dangerous step. Go where you must depend on the power of God.
  2. Embrace God’s Timing. Jesus frequently will ask something of you at the worst time. Bad timing for you…? That is the point! Jesus cranks up the pressure to show you that you are trusting on your own skill and strength. This is pride. Get over it and obey.
  3. Prepare for a God-size harvest. Are you ready for God to do great things through you? Are you willing to make a radical life change?

What is your next dangerous step? Put into deep water and press on
